iPhone users can now also listen to anecdotes about the history of Einsiedeln by means of a new app offering audio tours through the town.

A new app with interactive map turns your iPhone into an audio guide.

Why is the square of the famous monastery so big? What made Apollonia urge her shoemaker husband Jakob to become a Schafsbock baker — a famous Einsiedeln speciality which you definitely should try?

Tourists and pilgrims alike can get the answers to these and other questions on their iPhone, thanks to a new app which makes it possible to listen to audio tours and learn interesting facts about the history of the place.

GPS technology makes it possible

The new app offers more than just a normal audio-guide device. First, the iPhone locates your exact position and then, depending whether you are in the monastery’s square or in front of a Schafsbock bakery, it has you listen to the relevant story.

Furthermore, the app shows all audio tours on detailed and interactive town maps.

The new app includes two audio tours with 9 little-known episodes of Einsiedeln's eventful history and was developed by getunik on behalf of Audiotours. The new app is subject to a fee and can be downloaded from the Apple App-Store.
