"We are not indifferent about what we do. We put our heart and soul into it"

... so says Marco Zaugg, getunik’s CEO. He talks about the company’s philosophy, mistakes, smaller companies, and how one can make a project successful.

Marco Zaugg: Founder, Consultant

Marco Zaugg: "The question is this: Does the client insist on high quality?"

Marco Zaugg, if getunik were a person: How would you characterise him?
Marco Zaugg: Well… (mulling over it). getunik would be 35 years old, client-oriented, with a high understanding of quality, placing the business above everything else – not frivolous but putting heart and soul into it. Actually, it would be a person who would not be dispassionate enough from a business point of view.

Are getunik projects really successful?
If the objectives of the project are clear and we are able to grasp these, then projects are 95% to 98% successful. WWF, for instance, is a perfect example and it has had a lasting effect. WWF, a large network of autonomous national organisations, is happy with a solution which we offered in a very short time.

Does getunik also make mistakes?
A perfect example of a mistake was a project which depended very much on our programmers. However, this particular client unfortunately did not work in a planned way like a programmer, and was persistent and determined in having his own way. The mistake which we made was that we did not accompany this particular client as much as we should have. Today, our consulting philosophy is that each project has its own consultant who takes care of the project from A to Z. For larger, more complex projects a technical project leader is also assigned and both work in close cooperation with each other.

What can the client do to make a project successful?
Most importantly, the client must choose an able employee as a liaison to work with our agency and also grant him or her the necessary authority. A good client liaison ensures that the right decisions are taken.

getunik offers the best range of strategic consultation, creation, training in writing skills, implementation, email marketing. What does the company shy away from?
We do not do hosting. We do not offer any basic software and, at present, we do not offer any search engine marketing. We create electronic advertising media, but we do not carry out any media planning. We offer ‘dot net’ technology through a reliable partner.

Are there projects which getunik refuses to handle?
We do not undertake sexist, racist or pornographic projects.

Are there concepts which are refused by getunik simply because they are bad?
We warn the client if we consider their idea not to be promising. However, that said, if the client, after three or four warnings, still insists on implementing the idea then we fall in line and comply with the request.

getunik clients list includes some big names like Roger Federer, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and UNICEF. Does getunik really have any interest in smaller companies?
The client list does comprise a lot of small companies. There is no real ‘big or small’ . My interest would be to see whether it is an exciting project and whether the client insists on high quality. For the client, the query would be, “Should I buy a cheap, ready-made off-the-peg dress which might come apart in a couple of months or should I choose a good tailor for a customised suit which would last and wear well?”
